Climate crisis threatening 10% of the Islands' GDP

Cinco días, the newspaper specialising in financial and economic matters, has published an article drawing attention to the grim prospects facing the planet as a result of climate change. Tourism, the fishing and agriculture industries could all be adversely affected in the Canary Islands as a result of rising sea levels, ocean acidification and warmer sea temperatures. Comments regarding these phenomena in the article have been made by IOCAG researchers Alonso Hernández Guerra, Melchor González Dávila and Santiago Hernández León, and indicate the prospective loss of the islands' beaches should current trends continue, the change in acidic properties of marine organisms and the reduction in food supply for fish.
