Introduction

The Doctoral Program in Oceanography and Global Change offers a curriculum adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), with a clear view to train people to be experts in Oceanography. Its main objective is to train new doctors in several areas related to the fields covered by Physical Oceanography, Chemical Oceanography, Biological Oceanography and Geological Oceanography.

Within the research stage, DOYCAG is committed to the development of scientific issues of international concern and, therefore, issues that have an impact on the Canary Islands, our environment. Collaboration of students in oceanographic cruises in the waters of the archipelago is facilitated, so they can enjoy by themselves the tasks performed by an oceanographer in a suitable vessel for this work.

Thus, the formation of a future Doctor in Oceanography has been directed to real cases of international and local importance (Canary Islands), contributing to improve the competitiveness of our graduates. This would be a way to fight for and improve the development of the Canary Islands. This Ph.D. Program aims to fill both basic and applied research training to deepen and develop in the Ph.D. students their skills in any of the lines that form part of the Program.

The Doctoral Program in Oceanography and Global Change has a high degree of internationalization given by the previous relationship that have much of the participating entities and groups with national and international research institutions. In this sense, the Ph.D. Program in Oceanography and Global Change will use this existing network of partnerships to support a number of activities of the Ph.D. program such as the invitation of external researchers to provide specific seminars, participate in mentoring activities of research conducted by Ph.D. students and serve as external reviewers of those activities by students that require independent valuation of an internationally renowned researcher. In addition, this network of centers will also serve as external receiver of Ph.D. students during their research stays, that will take place along the doctoral program.
