Further information on the dust-laden Calima wind and the age of the Sahara
Following initial details published in El Diario regarding the discovery that the Sahara has been identified as the source of dust blown towards the Canary islands for 4.6 million years, both the ULPGC and EFE have dedicated space to this important news. The findings of the research led by Daniel R Muhs (USGS), Joaquin Eco (Dept. Biology ULPGC) and IOCAG's Alejandro Lomoschitz first appeared in the July edition of "Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology" and have once more fuelled the debate on the age of the Sahara, ongoing for the last two decades.
The articles, together with updated photographs can be accessed on the ULPGC and EFE webpages .
