IOCAG's QUIMA divsion to play key role in CARBOCAN

The ULPGC has given details on its website of the joint agreement between the University and the Canary government to collaborate in the maintenance of the Ocean CO2 Observation Network in the Canary Islands (Red de Observación de Dióxido de Carbono Oceánico en Canarias - CARBOCAN). The agreement, which will be in force for four years, will include a budget of 240,000 euros provided by the government.
QUIMA will be responsible for fulfilling the aims of the network which include identifying and monitoring CO2 content in the archipelago, as well studying ocean acidification and checking factors which determine the distribution of its compounds. QUIMA will also be in charge of campaigns to raise awareness among schools, colleges, universities and local government on the basis of data obtained.
