Emilio José González Clavijo

Born in Salamanca (Spain) on 04/03/1958. Dr in Geology at Salamanca University in 1997 (Relationship between geological structure and sedimentary basins: synorogenic stratigraphic record). Geologist at Salamanca University in 1980 At the moment Jefe de la Unidad de Salamanca del Centro Nacional Instituto Geológico y Minero de España del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas and scientific researcher.

Permanent position (civil servant since December 2006). Today’s scientific production is focused on synorogenic Variscan deposits at the Iberian Variscan Massif and their relationship to the orogenic processes.

Earlier career:

  • 6 years as civil servant at the Portuguese Geological Survey (LNEG). Scientific researcher and executive director of a mayor geological mapping project.
  • 4 years as civil servant at the International Department of the British Geological Survey as senior geologist deputy officer (South America and Africa).
  • 8 years as temporary hired geologist at the Spanish Geological Survey (IGME).
  • 10 years of expertise in major mining companies (Exxon Minerals, RTZ, Compagnie Minière Saint Alban).

Research interests

  • Economic geology in a diversity of terranes.
  • Geological and mining occurrences mapping in the Iberian Variscan Belt, Mesozoic and Cainozoic Basins in Portugal, Andean Ranges, Caribbean area, Río de la Plata and East Africa Cratons.
  • Neotectonics in the Algarvian Cainozoic Basin (South Portugal).
