Luis Cana Cascallar
Luis Cana received BSc in Atmospheric Sciences & Geophysics, Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain) 1991 and the PhD in Atmospheric Sciences, Universidad Complutense de Madrid (1997). He was Associate Professor in the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain) from 1997 to 2003, and now is Full Professor in the same University from 2003, lecturing in Physics for Engineering and Air-Sea Interaction.
During the past 20 years he worked in Air Pollution, development of Mesoscale Storms and Synoptic and Mesoscale Meteorology. Now he is starting to study air-sea phenomena around the Canary Archipelago (modification of ocean eddies by Air-Sea Interaction) as well as local weather phenomena (Island wakes or sea-breeze development).
Research interests
- Air-Sea interaction: sea-breezes, wakes
- Mesoscale Meteorological Models: boundary-layer parameterizations, as well as microphysics and cumuli schemes
- Mesoscale meteorology: conceptual models and their application to the Macaronesian Area
