J. Magdalena Santana Casiano
Born in Gran Canaria in March 1965, Dr. Santana-Casiano studied Marine Sciences at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, graduating in 1988 and earning her doctoral degree from ULPGC in 1991, receiving the extraordinary award for her doctoral thesis. In 1990, she began her teaching career at ULPGC within the Faculty of Marine Sciences.
From July 2010 to June 2017, she served as the Vice-Dean of Postgraduate Studies, and since December 2022, she has been the coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Oceanography and Global Change. In May 2011, she was appointed as a Full Professor in the field of Sciences, specializing in Chemical Oceanography. Her research training has been complemented by various stays for two years at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, University of Miami.
Her research focuses on the two lines pursued by the QUIMA-ULPGC group, one concerning the study of the carbon dioxide system in oceans and the second, for which she is responsible, the investigation of physicochemical processes of trace metals in the marine environment, particularly iron.
