Juan Luis Gómez Pinchetti
Juan Luis Gómez-Pinchetti is a scientist in Algal Biotechnology at the Institute of Oceanography and Global Change and the Spanish Bank of Algae. Master in Applied Algology and Ph.D. in Marine Sciences (1993), he spent scientific training periods at the Dept. Physiological Botany (Uppsala University, Sweden) and INRA (Nantes, France).
Senior Lecturer in the Marine Sciences Faculty at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, his main research interests are related to the biotechnology, physiology and cultivation of marine macro- and microalgae. He has got a wide experience in laboratory and pilot-scale cultivation of marine macroalgae, microalgae and cyanobacteria.
Research objectives include physiological and biochemical characterization, transformation and applications of marine algal biomass, and the development of wastewaters and CO2 biofiltration systems by using algae.
Currently he is Head of the Dept. of Biology (ULPGC) and President of the Spanish Phycological Society (SEF).
