Milagros Rico Santos
Born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Dr. Rico graduated in Chemical Sciences from the University of La Laguna and obtained his doctoral degree in Chemical Sciences from the same university. Her doctoral thesis focused on designing "Convergent synthesis strategies for the construction of fused toxic polyether fragments." Subsequently, she pursued a postdoctoral stay of two and a half years in Germany, working on the project "Development of Synthetic Methods and Stereoselective Preparation of Anticancer Agents with the following contracts from the European Union," focusing on the synthesis of the antibiotics nystatin and amphotericin.
Currently, she is an Associate Professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, teaching at the Faculty of Marine Sciences (Degree in Marine Sciences) and at the School of Industrial and Civil Engineering (Degree in Chemical Engineering). Her research focuses on the study of organic compounds of marine origin derived from algae and marine organisms, their characterization, and their importance as products for controlling biogeochemical cycles of trace metals.
